Did You Know?

The Martini is so popular that in 2019, "The New York Times" named it the world's most famous cocktail! Did you know that originally, Martinis were served with a slice of cucumber or a sprig of rosemary instead of the traditional olive or lemon?

Instructions

  1. This is easy, start by filling the shaker with ice, don't forget, it needs to get cold!
  2. Now add the gin and dry vermouth to the shaker.
  3. Close the shaker carefully and shake vigorously for about 10-15 seconds.
  4. Then, use your strainer and simply pour the contents from the shaker into your chilled cocktail glass.
  5. To finish and serve, garnish with a slice of lemon peel or an olive, depending on your preference, and you're done! Enjoy!

Preparation Tips

  • This is important: Use a chilled cocktail glass to keep your drink colder for longer.
  • If you prefer a drier Martini, simply reduce the amount of vermouth.
  • For a smoother Martini, opt for a higher quality vermouth and a softer gin.
  • When shaking the cocktail in the shaker, make sure to shake it with enough force for proper mixing, but without diluting the flavor too much with ice. 10-15 seconds should be enough. You can use a cloth or gloves to handle the shaker, as the metal really cools down.

Tasting Notes

  • It’s no surprise that the Classic Martini Cocktail is a strong and sophisticated drink, with its herbal gin base and botanical notes that give it a unique aromatic profile.
  • The dry vermouth also brings a slight sweetness and some bitter undertones that perfectly balance the gin's flavor.
  • As for the lemon or olive garnish, it adds a citrusy or salty freshness, depending on your taste, which adds an extra layer of complexity to the flavor.

Nutritional Benefits

The Classic Martini Cocktail is undoubtedly a refreshing and elegant, even traditional, drink, perfect for a relaxing evening. Nutritionally, since it's made primarily with gin and dry vermouth, it has low calories and is free of carbohydrates, making it an ideal option for those seeking a drink without those added sugars that aren't good for health. Additionally, gin contains botanicals that may offer antioxidant properties, while dry vermouth adds an herbal touch that complements the flavors. The lemon slice or olive not only adds a touch of freshness and flavor but also provides a small amount of vitamin C. Remember to enjoy responsibly.

History or Inspiration of the Recipe

As we all know, the Martini is one of the most iconic cocktails in the world, appearing in hundreds of movies and books. However, its origin is a debated topic. It is believed to have been invented in the late 19th century in California, although there are several versions of its creation. And yes, the classic recipe we know today, made with gin and vermouth, has been the favorite drink of many famous figures, including the character James Bond, who always requested his Martini "shaken, not stirred."

Food Pairings

  • The Classic Martini Cocktail is undoubtedly ideal for pairing with seafood dishes, like grilled shrimp or fresh oysters.
  • It also pairs wonderfully with salty appetizers such as olives, cured cheese, or almonds.
  • The Classic Martini Cocktail is perfect to serve alongside tuna tartare or fresh sushi.

Recipe Variations

  • Dirty Martini: In this very popular variation, simply add a small amount of olives and their juice to the cocktail for a salty taste and an extra layer of flavor.

  • Lemon Martini: Here, we replace the lemon peel with some fresh lemon juice to give it a more acidic and refreshing twist.

  • Vodka Martini: Instead of gin, use vodka for a smoother drink without the herbal flavor of gin.

  • Ginger Martini: Add some ginger syrup for a spicy and sweet touch that complements the classic Martini flavor.

  • Apple Martini: Simple but delicious, just add a bit of apple liqueur for a sweeter, fruitier variation and garnish with an apple slice.

So, the Classic Martini Cocktail is not only an elegant and easy-to-make drink that can be the perfect touch for any special occasion or a quiet night, but it is also incredibly famous not just in the country but around the world. With its refreshing and sophisticated flavors, it’s a recipe that not only impresses but also invites you to enjoy unique moments. Just remember, always drink responsibly. Cheers!

Classic Martini Cocktail

Servings: 1 glass

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Ingredients

  • 2 oz gin
  • 1/2 oz dry vermouth
  • Lemon peel or olive for garnish (I prefer the olive)

Required Materials*

  • Shaker
  • Jigger (to measure ounces)
  • Strainer
  • Cocktail glass (martini glass)

Instructions

  1. Let's get started! First, preheat the grill or skillet to medium-high heat.
  2. Now, use a small bowl to mix the garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper, making sure everything is well combined.
  3. Rub the chicken breasts with olive oil so the spice mixture sticks, then coat them with the spice mix you just made.
  4. Next, place the chicken breasts on the grill or skillet and cook for 6-7 minutes on each side or until the chicken is fully cooked, around 165-170 °F. Be careful not to burn them and dry them out.
  5. Brush the barbecue sauce onto the chicken during the last 2 minutes of cooking, on both sides (one minute per side).
  6. Remove the chicken from the heat and let it rest for 5 minutes before serving. If you like, you can add another layer of sauce to intensify the flavor and color.

*Alternative for the Jigger

If you don't have a jigger, you can use:

Measuring spoons:

  • 1 oz = 2 tablespoons (30 ml)

  • 1/2 oz = 1 tablespoon (15 ml)

Kitchen measuring cups:

Many kitchen measuring cups have markings for ounces and milliliters, allowing you to accurately measure the necessary ingredients without any problem.

*Alternative for the Shaker

If you don't have a shaker, try one of these alternatives:

Jar with a lid (like a Mason jar):

Fill it with the ingredients and ice, seal the lid tightly, and shake it like a shaker. It works great for mixing and chilling ingredients.

Coffee thermos:

A coffee thermos (well cleaned, to avoid mixing smells or flavors) can function as a shaker when closed and shaken. It’s a solid option.

Tall glass and spoon:

If your mocktail or cocktail doesn’t need a strong shake, simply mix the ingredients directly in the glass with a long spoon (or bar spoon, if you have one) and add ice at the end.
