Instructions:

  1. Let’s get started! Use the Jigger to measure the pumpkin puree, apple cider, and maple syrup, adding them one by one to the shaker.

  2. Then, gradually add the cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and cloves to the shaker.

  3. Fill the shaker with ice, cover, and shake well for about 10-15 seconds to chill and combine the ingredients thoroughly.

  4. Now, fill a glass of your choice with fresh ice and strain the mixture directly into the glass using the shaker’s top.

  5. Finish with a splash of sparkling water to taste, and garnish with an apple slice and cinnamon stick. For extra flavor and presentation, add a light sprinkle of ground cinnamon on top.

Preparation Tips

  • If you want a more intense flavor, I suggest letting the pumpkin and spice mixture sit in the refrigerator for at least an hour before serving—this will concentrate the flavors even more.

  • Always use high-quality ice or homemade ice to prevent the mocktail's flavor from diluting too quickly. Some ice can make the flavor fade faster.

  • To adjust the sweetness level, taste the mixture before adding the maple syrup, so you can tailor it to your personal preference or that of your guests.

  • For a more polished presentation, simply moisten the rim of the glass and dip it in a mixture of sugar and cinnamon.

  • If you prefer a smoother texture, strain the mixture before serving to remove any pumpkin pulp, if needed.

  • Be sure to use chilled sparkling water to keep the drink refreshing without altering the mocktail's temperature.

Tasting Notes

  • In this mocktail, the pumpkin’s sweet and smooth flavor blends perfectly with the spices, creating a comforting sensation.

  • It’s the notes of cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves that lend a spiced touch that brings the essence of fall to mind.

  • The maple syrup adds a natural sweetness that complements the flavor profile without being overwhelming—unless that’s your preference, of course!

  • The sparkling water adds a gentle effervescence, balancing the thick texture of the pumpkin puree.

Pairings for the Pumpkin Spice Mocktail

  • Apple Desserts: Apple pies or crumbles help highlight the spiced notes and natural sweetness of the mocktail.

  • Soft Cheeses: If you enjoy cheese, varieties like brie or camembert provide a creamy contrast that pairs well with the drink’s spices.

  • Ginger Cookies: The spiced flavor of ginger cookies complements the mocktail’s autumn-inspired profile.

  • Toasted Nuts: Almonds, walnuts, and pecans add a crunchy texture and an earthy flavor that pairs perfectly with pumpkin spice.

  • Pumpkin Muffins: These muffins enhance the pumpkin flavor in the mocktail, creating a harmonious taste experience. Wouldn’t you agree?

  • Dark Chocolates: Personally not my favorite, but dark chocolate does help balance the sweetness and texture of the mocktail beautifully.

*Alternative for the Jigger

If you don't have a jigger, you can use:

Measuring spoons:

  • 1 oz = 2 tablespoons (30 ml)

  • 1/2 oz = 1 tablespoon (15 ml)

Kitchen measuring cups:

Many kitchen measuring cups have markings for ounces and milliliters, allowing you to accurately measure the necessary ingredients without any problem.

*Alternative for the Shaker

If you don't have a shaker, try one of these alternatives:

Jar with a lid (like a Mason jar):

Fill it with the ingredients and ice, seal the lid tightly, and shake it like a shaker. It works great for mixing and chilling ingredients.

Coffee thermos:

A coffee thermos (well cleaned, to avoid mixing smells or flavors) can function as a shaker when closed and shaken. It’s a solid option.

Tall glass and spoon:

If your mocktail or cocktail doesn’t need a strong shake, simply mix the ingredients directly in the glass with a long spoon (or bar spoon, if you have one) and add ice at the end.
