Travel & Vacation...

There are, of course, many reasons why traveling is important, but I'd like to start with the simplest one: traveling is important because it's fun, because it relaxes us, because it allows us to rest, whether it be our minds or our bodies. It also enables us to create memories and strengthen bonds with the people we travel with. We've all experienced this; just remember our trips as kids with our parents, the fun we had with our siblings, and all the memories we still treasure decades later. Travel imprints true treasures in our memories and makes us smile every time we recall them
Of course, there are deeper reasons for the importance of travel. A person always knows their environment, their neighborhood, their community, their neighbors, their family. That’s desirable and it’s fine, but when we travel, we change our immediate surroundings for a few days, weeks, or months. We encounter new places, new people, and new ways of seeing and facing life. In other words, travel broadens our horizons, allows us to discover the richness of perspectives that exist in our world, and brings us closer to a greater understanding of other cultures, languages, and histories.
For example, it’s not the same to learn about Mexico from the news, where unfortunately, it's mostly bad news about violence, as it is to travel to one of its many cities with security levels more akin to Canada than to the United States. It's not the same to see this country through the lens of Hollywood, which literally always adds a sepia filter to anything related to Mexico, as it is to experience its culture and its people up close, where the vast majority are kind individuals looking to improve their families' lives. By traveling, we can see how different the world actually is from how it has been portrayed to us in books, movies, and more, and increase our tolerance and empathy by witnessing other realities firsthand.
Being amazed is one of the best reasons to travel. To be astonished by the spectacular beauty of a place—a beach, a mountain, a forest, a building, an entire city—can dazzle our senses in a way that simply a book, a video, a movie, or a photograph cannot. It's not the same to know about it as it is to be there and feel the place, its colors, its smells, its atmosphere. I remember the first time I visited La Paz, Mexico, and its incredible natural beauty. I had seen it in videos and photos before, but as I said, it doesn't compare to being here and marveling at all your senses. I mention La Paz because this is where I have been living for more than 10 years, but the same wonder can come from any trip we take, and it doesn't even have to be a long journey. Do you remember your first trip to the zoo? How amazing it was to see those imposing animals live? I particularly remember being struck by the rhinoceros and the hippos, as well as the tigers. It wasn't necessary for my parents to take me across the world to be amazed; a trip across the city was enough.
Another great reason to travel, besides being amazed, having fun, resting, or understanding other ways of seeing life, is that it allows us to appreciate our own reality more. Don't get me wrong, traveling to spectacular places will always fill us with wonder, but always in travels, especially the long ones, begins the feeling of missing what's ours, what we know, where we belong, and when we return, we simply value it more because we missed it.
Of course, we can't overlook the fact that for many people, traveling is important because it's their job. At one point in my life, I also traveled a couple of days each week for my then-job. I always enjoyed discovering new places and meeting new people, which was inevitable given the nature of the job. Back in those days, I was a salesperson, so traveling weekly was an unavoidable requirement. There were good and bad experiences, of course, but mostly they were good. Even traveling for work enriches your perspective on life.
In conclusion, travel is important because it allows us to explore other places, cultures, languages, and ways of seeing life, as well as to be amazed by the wonders our world has to offer us. Of course, for many people, the main reason to travel is to rest both mind and body, to have fun, and to spend great moments with their loved ones. Travel is also important because it allows us to value our own reality more.
