Why Kids Adore La Paz Beaches?

It's no secret that I adore the beaches of La Paz, Mexico, but I'm far from the only one. There's a special group that loves them just as much... kids. These little humans know what they want, and they’re not shy about letting you know if they don’t like something. In this case, I’d like to share when my daughter first experienced the beaches of La Paz. She was just a little girl then, and she thoroughly enjoyed the calm waters and gentle waves. She was not, and will not be, the only child to relish these beaches and have a great time. So, what is it about the beaches of La Paz that kids enjoy so much and have so much fun?

Well, it might be good to also remember when we were kids and the world seemed like a huge place with giants all around us. The first time my daughter encountered the sea, we got knocked over by a wave, and it was supposed to be a calm sea. Nothing went wrong, but she ended up a bit frustrated; we hadn’t been able to enjoy the sea as we had hoped. Some time later, we came to La Paz, where her grandparents had recently moved, and what a difference in experience. My first reaction was pure joy because at these beaches (most of them), there are barely any waves—in fact, they are so small that you have to strain to see them, and the water is so calm it’s like a pool, especially when there's no wind. I immediately went into the sea with my daughter, and what a joy it was! There were no waves to knock us over or currents to pull us; it was not just about enjoying the sea, watching the fish swim close to us or even around us, all while the serenity of the place enveloped us and the safety of the beach encouraged us to enjoy it until we were utterly tired. Eventually, that happened; we got tired and left the beach, reluctantly, because we had had an incredible day, but you know, a father has to set the example. I remember telling my dad... no wonder this place is called The Peace (La Paz); the beaches are just that—peaceful, friendly, serene. It wasn't the last time my daughter enjoyed these incredible beaches, of course. The last time she was here was in the summer, having fun just as she did when she was little. But you know, she’s a college girl now, she can’t stay as long as she’d like and has to go back to finish her studies. But as a child, oh, how she enjoyed these waters, and as a father, I enjoyed seeing her so happy, because that’s ultimately our job, isn’t it? To see them happy as they grow.

Once, I asked my daughter what she liked most about these beaches when she was a little girl, and without hesitation, she said it felt "like a pool but more fun," which I think encapsulates what children feel when they're at the beaches of La Paz. They feel like they are swimming and having fun on beaches so calm, with waves so small, it's as if they were in a pool, but with the opportunity to engage in many fun activities like kayaking, snorkeling, or boat rides. My daughter didn’t mention this, but I also know that these beaches made her feel safe, safe from being tossed by a wave or pulled by a strong current—those don’t exist here (at least not at the "family" beaches). I know because I, as a parent, saw her swim and have fun with more confidence in the serene and crystal-clear waters of this city's beaches than at any other beach we've visited. And that's exactly the point—kids feel safe on these beaches because they are so family-friendly, especially for the little ones.

This is what kids adore about these beaches. Let’s put ourselves in their shoes, remember when we were children. The beaches of La Paz have a mix of calm and wholesome fun that makes children feel fulfilled here. Whether they're just swimming, watching fish while snorkeling, or kayaking, everything they do, all the fun they have, it's all on the foundation of serene, safe beaches with extensive shallow areas (in Balandra you can walk in the water for many feet without it reaching your knees), almost no currents, and very small waves—yes, there are some waves, but really, they're very minor, nothing compared to the waves of California or even those of Cancun. These beaches are for everyone, but kids will enjoy them immensely because they will feel secure on them, secure enough to have fun, to smile, and to be happy in the midst of an unknown world of giants.

I'm not exaggerating—the beaches of La Paz are like mirrors of water, pristine and crystal-clear natural pools, serene and tranquil, friendly to all, even if you can't swim. So, kids here can be sure to have fun, to wade a bit, to run a little more, and to playfully tease their parents, who will enjoy not only these incredible beaches and their stunning landscapes but most of all (as I did) seeing their children so happy and relaxed in an environment of serenity, confident that visiting La Paz was a fantastic travel idea.

I'd like to conclude by mentioning that I wrote an article about some of the best beaches in La Paz, detailing their unique features, so you can get to know and evaluate the best family-friendly beaches to visit. In fact, near La Paz, I've only come across one beach that might not be the best for swimming but is undoubtedly, in my opinion, the one with the most beautiful landscapes, a gorgeous beach for adults.
